With a career spanning more than two decades, Janita has an extensive portfolio of projects undertaken during her time as a successful Building Designer.
Projects range from residential to commerical work on country homes and properties in the regional area of Echuca and its surrounding district. Janita’s preference for this area lies in the satisfaction obtained from the synthesis of design in the context of the landscape, underpinned by traditional building forms and ways of life that must be included in the design response.
With a strong design foundation she has no need to hide behind fads or ‘empty’ building forms. Honesty, integrity and authenticity in the design is paramount. These projects are the tangible expression of Janita’s design philosophy incorporating simple design elements with some fluidity of organic form and using ‘honest’ materials such as corrugated iron and timber.
Key stand-out projects include the Thomson residence 2010 for which Janita was awarded a ‘special commendation’ by the BDAV, the Berrimba Childcare Centre and the Westbury residence.
Projects on the drawing board at present include the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre, the Timber Cutters Interpretive Centre in Picnic Point – Barmah Forest and a new residence set within a protected natural reserve. These exciting works incorporate the use of timber and natural building elements to express the connection to the landscape and resonate strongly with the occupiers and uses of the spaces.
