Janita Norman

Principal, Building Designer, Heritage Consultant

Over a career spanning more than two decades as a successful building designer, Janita has produced a remarkable body of work across Australia’s regional and rural landscape.

Her extensive portfolio of residential and commercial design projects features custom designs, new builds, alterations, renovations and refurbishments of homes, properties and businesses throughout Victoria and southern New South Wales.

Janita specialises in the design of country homes and properties in outlying rural areas of Echuca Moama and beyond – projects that embody pure synthesis of design and work in harmony with the landscape and surroundings.
These works are a tangible expression of her design philosophy, incorporating simple design elements with honest and organic materials to express connection with the environment.

Backed by a solid foundation in design, Janita has no need to hide behind trends, fads or empty contemporary building forms. Honesty, integrity and authenticity in the design are leading principles that guide her work.

Key standout projects include the Thomson residence 2010, for which Janita was awarded a special commendation by the BDAV; and the Bridge Hotel Conservation Works, which herald an exciting new era in the life of this iconic Echuca landmark.

Other innovative projects on the drawing board include the Conargo Hotel Redevelopment; Echuca’s new Wharfside Restaurant; and renovations to an historic farmhouse on a large sheep property in the Riverina.

These unique and exciting works are set in idyllic locations across the countryside, and like so many projects before them, will make powerful visual statements that inspire generations to come.
